FaceErase is a camera that finds faces as you shoot and covers them before the photo is saved. Everything happens on your iPhone. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no account to make.

Every face it finds is covered. Leave one visible on purpose, or add a cover over anything it missed.
Choose a default, then change any face on its own. You can mix styles in the same photo. Covers are sized to the face, so the rest of the picture stays visible.
A solid black circle over the face. Clean, and it keeps the most of the scene.
A solid black block over the whole face. Unmistakably redacted.

A paper bag over the head. For when the photo should still be fun.
Coarse pixels over the face. Hides less than the solid styles: hair, skin tone and face shape stay visible.
FaceErase covers faces. Hair, clothes, tattoos, name badges and number plates can still identify someone. Tap the photo to cover anything else.
Faces are covered live in the viewfinder, in the style you chose, so you see the result before you shoot.
The full-resolution photo is checked again, more thoroughly, by two separate face detectors. Every face either one finds is covered.
Show, hide, restyle, move or resize any cover. Add one over anything that was missed. Crop out what doesn't belong. You're warned before saving any face that won't be hidden.
Only the covered photo is kept, in FaceErase's own encrypted storage. Before sharing, the file is checked again for hidden data.

A PIN you choose, stored only as a salted hash in your iPhone's secure Keychain. Wrong guesses mean longer and longer waits.
Photos stay inside FaceErase, encrypted by iOS whenever your phone is locked, and never backed up to iCloud.
Screenshots and screen recordings of FaceErase come out black, so nothing unprotected slips into your Photos.
Location, time, and camera details are stripped from every photo. If a shared file still contained any, FaceErase refuses to share it.
Faces are found on your phone, by your phone. Your photos are never uploaded, to us or anyone else.
No account, no sign-up, no email needed. A privacy tool that opens with a registration form has missed the point.
No analytics, no advertising, no ad identifiers. FaceErase makes no network connections at all. Check it yourself in your iPhone's App Privacy Report.
The uncovered photo is wiped from memory as soon as you save, retake or leave the app. Only the covered version is ever stored.
FaceErase is in beta. We're looking for reporters, organisers, photographers and anyone who shares photos of other people to try early builds and tell us where it falls short.
